With the success of Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Team Asobi and Astro Bot jumped to the PlayStation 5. Each of the 11 levels can be found by finding a secret exit in various other levels throughout the universe. After announcing the news back in February, the DLC levels for Vicious Void Galaxy are now all available.
It fully delivers on the promise of Astro’s Playroom, building on the rock solid core of tight controls and inventive gameplay and turning everything up to 11. With tons to see and do, almost endless fresh ideas, innovative use of the DualSense’s features, and truly charming presentation, it’s a confident and cohesive experience that players of all ages will love. The mothership — a PS5, finally filling a role it’s always looked designed to play — crash lands on a desert world at the centre of several nearby galaxies.
The short adventure worked as an effective tech demo, starring Astro, for the PS5’s multifaceted (and heavily underutilized) DuelSense controller. It also provided a look back at previous PlayStation releases, including beloved characters and hardware of varying popularity. Nothing is missable, you can still replay all levels after the story and go back to all areas. If you don’t want to replay levels, the most efficient method is to collect everything on the first run. You need most bots anyway to unlock the boss levels in each Nebula. Like any excellent platformer, Astro Bot’s movement feels responsive and trustworthy.

Sony and Team ASOBI have knocked it out of the park with this game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this game is regarded as one of Sony’s best releases to date. Astro Bot hides over 300 secret bots, including 195 cameo bots from other games spanning PlayStation’s long history. Vicious Void is a galaxy that unlocks after clearing the main game. It contains special challenge levels, and each of them contains a Special Bot to unlock. Astro’s adventure takes him to various galaxies full of planets to explore as he tracks down his scattered crew.
You won’t explore past PlayStation consoles, but the mothership you’re trying to repair is just a giant PS5, and the spaceship you use to explore the overworld is a DualSense controller with wings. It feels a bit like that meme of Obama awarding Obama a medal, but it’s not distracting, so ultimately, it’s fine. Sony is releasing another stream of Astro Bot expansions, the first of which is available today, February 13, adding a total of five new levels and as many special bots. This is joined by a PlayStation 5 Pro patch, which allows the best resolution while running at 60 frames per second. A new batch of five levels were added in July 2025, adding five new cameo bots including a couple of Final Fantasy characters.

I am annoyed I can come up with animal abilities for better navigation/quest access in BIomutant, oh no we have gliders (other features, a merchant like BOTW I’ll never find again) and vehicles but why can’t I dig, fly, swim? Why can’t it be I have animal abilities and if someone doesn’t have that ability they can still use the Jet Ski. Does it make the Jet Ski redundant not completely it may be faster and still relevant. As soon as players boot up the game, Astro Bot and his crew of fellow Bots get their ship (which, coincidentally, looks like a PlayStation 5) destroyed by Neblux, the Space Bully. It’s now up to Astro Bot to find the missing parts of the ship that are scattered throughout the galaxy while rescuing his lost friends. This isn’t a bad thing, since players don’t need to have that much story or depth for Astro Bot, or platformers in general. Instead of having gg888 , Astro Bot lets the gameplay shine and do the talking for it. Astro Bot follows the tiny but brave Astro as his PS5 mothership is attacked by his galactic nemesis, scattering the crew throughout space.
In Astro Bot, there are 300 bots to find, including 169 cameo bots, as well as dozens of puzzle pieces and several secret Void levels hidden within the game. Normally, a game like this would be quite a chore for players seeking to polish off all of its optional items to 100% completion, but Astro Bot offers a special tool that makes this process much faster and more enjoyable. Players guide Astro Bot through dynamic environments filled with moving platforms, enemies, and interactive objects.
The crash site hub world has its own areas to explore and is packed full of quirks, such as eventually letting you customise your ship and outfit. The gacha machine mechanic makes a particularly enjoyable return, providing a satisfying way to spend the thousands of coins you’ll collect. It’s not brand-new for the series at this point, but still hits all the right spots. Some of those biggest unexpected treats are the new powers that Astro gets along his journey. The basic movement of our little robot pal is great, with his jump, double jump, and hover hitting that sweet spot between floaty and finely tuned.
Samus, unfortunately, is still vulnerable to attacks in her ball form, so in a one-on-one dual, Astro Bot will probably come out on top. There is another rolling device worth mentioning in passing via an Armadillo which appears mostly in bonus stages. Players can ride on it but this Armadillo is more of a vehicle than a power-up as it doesn’t strap onto Astro Bot and thus doesn’t give him invulnerability. Astro Bot is challenging, but with a few helpful beginner tips, players can save their precious time. The newly released Astro Bot update was announced in a recent PS Blog post, which gave the names of four of the five new levels that will be part of the Vicious Void Galaxy. As seen in the new trophies, the new levels are named Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, High Inflation, and Megamix Mastery.
Not exactly my jam – but it would seem this, like other games before it, are fun to be had by anyone. That’s why many studios try to compensate by pouring money into those other areas. These games are a celebration of gaming – specifically PlayStation gaming.

Not only are the character designs perfect for distinguishing the bots, but these are also apparent in some gameplay segments. One example is the game’s callback to Ape Escape where you’ll be chasing the apes around the map the way you would in the original game. Other than these gameplay examples, the special bots in the game also have unique and special animations that you can unlock in the game’s Gacha Lab, which adds even more personality to the already amazing-looking models. Astro Bot is nothing short of a masterpiece, an ingenious platformer filled with vibrant worlds and ingenious design. It’s a game that oozes creativity, consistently delighting and surprising the player with new mechanics, gameplay twists, smart boss battles, and jaw-dropping set-piece moments.
